The Journey So Far...
My DJ journey began with a dream sparked at local festivals and events in the Northwest of England. Watching the energy, creativity, and connection that DJs brought to the stage, I imagined myself one day standing in their place, performing for euphoric crowds. My ambition? To not only make it onto those stages but to bring my sound to legendary European festivals.
When it came to choosing my name, I wanted something that reflected both my personality and my artistic vision. "Dystopian" felt perfect - a nod to the dystopian art style I admire and a way to keep my own name, Ian, as part of my identity. It’s unique, much like my approach to music.
The Sound...
My music is deeply rooted in the sounds of the late ‘90s and early 2000s rave culture. Growing up during that era, I was surrounded by the trance, techno, and acid my mum would play, and it shaped the foundation of my sound. I strive to create music that remains authentic to that era, using traditional 90s samples and textures to evoke nostalgia while keeping things fresh for modern audiences.
If I had to describe my sound, I’d say it’s a journey - energetic, immersive, and euphoric. I aim to transport listeners to a place where dystopian darkness meets uplifting intensity. It’s about capturing the raw energy of rave culture and delivering it in a way that feels timeless.
The Process
I don’t overcomplicate my process. I just go with the flow and see where the music takes me. There’s something organic about letting the creative process unfold naturally. What makes my music stand out in the trance scene is my approach to reimagining the old and making it new – whether through sampling, remixes, or re-creating the raw energy of those first unforgettable experiences.
Connecting with You
Music is about connection – whether it’s on the dancefloor or online. I love creating that connection during live performances, but I also reach out through my YouTube series with friends where we combine live DJing and VJing. We connect with listeners globally, bringing fresh and exciting mixes, while TikTok and Instagram help share the energy of my performances.
